Audi has announces a new variant in its A3 first saloon model.
The new A3 saloon and a high-performance S3 version where revealed at the New York Motor Show. The new A3 Saloon range becomes available for UK ordering this summer, closely followed by the 300bhp all-wheel-drive S3 saloon.
The A3 has a sleeker outline than a traditional saloon and has been built to compete with the new Mercedes CLA-Class for sales. The A3 saloon is 150mm longer than the A3 Sportback and will be available initially with 140bhp 1.4 TFSI and 180bhp 1.8 TFSI petrol engines as well as a 150bhp 2.0 TDI diesel.
The 1.4-litre petrol has cylinder-on-demand technology and can run on two cylinders under light throttle loads or when coasting and offers CO2 emissions of 109g/km with fuel consumption of 60.1 mpg on the combined cycle. The diesel has CO2 emissions of 108g/km and fuel consumption of 67.3mpg.
Audi A3 saloons are due to reach UK showrooms in the autumn of 2013 and the S3 saloon in early 2014.
