Audi A1 Quattro turbo charged 256bhp super mini

A SOUPED-up supermini which pays homage to one of the most successful rally cars ever created has just been unveiled by Audi.

The A1 Quattro might be based on the three door, front-wheel-drive A1 hatchback but thanks to the German firm fitting the latest version with four-wheel-drive and a turbocharged 256bhp it makes more than a nostalgic nod to the iconic Ur-quattro of the Eighties, which is fondly remembered for being Gene Hunt’s motor of choice in the BBC show Ashes to Ashes.

There’s no plan to bring the rally-styled A1 Quattro to Britain just yet – only 333 examples are being made, and they’re all left hand drive – but the company’s already hinted that if enough UK customers ask them nicely enough they might change their mind.
