New Vauxhall Astra three-door geared up to take on the Ford Focus RS.
Vauxhall prepares to unleash a stylish new hot hatch at the Paris Motor Show.

That’s the new three-door coupe type Vauxhall Astra!
The styling is said to be inspired by the 1970 philosophy novel, Jonathan Livingston Seagull depicting a laser-etched line from the book into the front seat upholstery – which reads “And the speed was pure beauty”.
The delay in release of the three-door Astra is likely to have been caused by GM’s spell in bankruptcy protection that put certain projects on the backburner.
Latest car photos show Astra- style genes in appearance, despite it being sportier and having lower-slung trim. The roof is distinctly arched and visually similar to today’s Astra Sport Hatch.

The car is likely to be sold as a coupe under a new brand name with a production not due in dealers here until late 2011 or early 2012.
